In this blog Alistair talks about one strand of the Prime Minister’s challenge on dementia.
Key points
The challenge covers three main areas:
- driving improvements in health and care
- creating dementia friendly communities
- improvements in research
In driving improvements in health and care there are five things thought to be particularly important:
- increasing diagnosis rates
- the dementia CQUIN
- an innovation prize for NHS staff looking at better ways to help people with dementia
- dementia care and support compact
- looking at local information

On the changes of prescription page I see no mention of antipsychotics. Especially toy oujnger patients with long term conditions such as schizophrenia, bi-polar, bi-polarmanic, obsessional disorders. What is the position here, as there are far too few hospital beds or other places of safety sh ould a patient have an acute episode.
hi – when are you planning to talk about the other 2 strands ?
